CORY MICHAEL SMITH earned rave reviews for his performance as “Chevy Chase” in Jason Reitman’s feature Saturday Night, depicting in the real-life behind-the-scenes accounts of the 90 minutes leading up to the very first taping of Saturday Night Live. The film was an official selection for the Telluride Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival this year.

Smith will next be seen in Jesse Armstrong’s Mountainhead opposite Steve Carrell, Jason Schwartzman and Ramy Youssef for HBO, Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value opposite Renate Reinsve, Elle Fanning and Stellan Skarsgård for Neon Films and in Jody Hill’s Famous opposite Zac Efron for A24.

Smith was previously seen in Todd Haynes’ May December opposite Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman. The film marks his third collaboration with Haynes as Smith previously appeared in Carol, which was nominated for six Academy Awards, and Wonderstruck.    

Other work includes roles in films such as Damien Chazelle’s First Man; Peter Hedges’ The Same Storm; Yen Tan’s 1985, on which Smith served as an Executive Producer; Peter Sattler’s Camp X-Ray with Kristen Stewart; and Phyllis Nagy’s Call Jane opposite Sigourney Weaver and Elizabeth Banks.  

Prior projects include Netflix’s limited series Transatlantic opposite Gillian Jacobs and Corey Stoll; Amazon Studios’ Utopia; and HBO’s award-winning limited series, Olive Kitteridge, opposite Frances McDormand. For his performance as the suicidal ‘Kevin Coulson,’ Smith received a Critics Choice Television Award nomination in the category of Best Supporting Actor in a Movie/Limited Series and a Gold Derby TV Award nomination. Smith is also known for his role as ‘The Riddler’ in Fox’s Gotham.  

Smith began his career on stage and was last seen on Broadway starring in Richard Greenberg’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s opposite Emilia Clarke. He was also seen Off-Broadway in Mike Bartlett’s Cock and Samuel D. Hunter’s The Whale.

Smith resides in New York.
